Beschreibung

There are two marinas in this inlet. Deer Harbor on the Easterly side and Cayou Quay on the Northwest side. Cayou Quay is a private marina that is easy to navigate and can accommodate boats up to 60 ft in length. It has 72 slips and room for 20 or so side-ties. There is a single-width boat launch ramp that is useable in all but the very lowest of tides, and can be used by the public on a fee-per-launch basis. The piers are old but in good condition. There is excellent wind protection except for Southerly winds. There is a small current running North-South on the inflow and outflow of the tide. There are at least 24 mooring buoys outside of the two marinas, but most are privately owned. There is no radio contact as there are no public tie-ups. Boats, including the occasional mega-yacht will anchor out South of the mooring bouys.

Please note: there is a float-plane service that lands North-South outside the mooring bouys and taxis into the public pier at the other marina (Deer Harbor Marina) just a few hundred feet across the inlet.

There is no store or eating facility at Cayou Quay Marina, but there are two restaurants within a mile. One focuses on BBQ and the other on pizza. There is a small store/hamburger grill at the other marina. Fuel, fresh water and a pump-out are also available at the other marina.

The scenery in the area is outstanding. The San Juan Islands are renowned for their beauty and excellent weather in the late Spring through early Fall months. There are a large number of excellent State and National Parks on various islands in the archipelago. There are many bays and inlets that allow protected anchoring. Most of the seabed in the San Juan Islands is rocky with a small number of clay or sandy locations.
