På toppen av øya ligger Redutten. En fremskutt observasjonspost. Her kan man se til Koster, Færder og mye mer.

Innseiling og maritime forhold: Akerøybukta nordvest for Festningsholmen, Akerøya, Hvaler. Urent farvann flere steder, bruk sjøkart.
Ankring: Brygge på festningsholmen. På Akerøya kan man ankre med dregg, og ligge longside avhengig av dybde på båten. Det er merket på fjellet hvor man kan legge til, men merk at ikke alle plasser er egnet for båter som stikker mer enn 1 meter . Noe faste kiler i fjellet, men gode muligheter for å slå ned kiler selv. Seilbåter ligger som regel på svai. Det er lagt ut bøye i vannet. Fine strender på øya .
Området: Unike området ble kjøpt av Oslofjordens Friluftsråd i 1955 gjennom et spleiselag. Et av de mest benyttede utfartsområder i Hvalerskjærgården. Overfor ilandsstigningsbryggen på nordøstsiden finner du drikkevann. Deler av øya er fuglereservat. spennende område med mye å se.
