Astakos is a market town of population about 4000 at a harbor on the north end of Astakos Bay. You can get car ferries to Ithaca and Cephelonia from here. It is easy to navigate to and there is a red harbor lights on the tip of the pier to guide you in at night. It was not very crowded when I went there, but that was in early September. We moored up alongside on the pontoon and the main problem that we had was strong catabolic winds in the late afternoon and early evening. The machines that deliver services look brand new and cards can be bought for them at an ice cream and newspaper kiosk on the key.
The town has a good variety of supermarkets and small shops, two or three hardware stores and one chandlery store, which somewhat limited stock. There is a hotel on the sea front, and in front of this there are some pebble beaches. There are a multitude of bars, cocktail bars, cafes and restaurants to choose from. All of them are pretty reasonably priced. This place would not be described as a "high-end" destination. It has its charm still.

Want to know how the wind score works? Then you should read this explanation.
The wind forecasts come from yr.no (Norwegian Meteorological Institute), and was last updated 4 hours and 59 minutes ago (Tuesday 04 November 01:20 PM). The next night score shows you the worst hour between 22:00 and 08:00 the next night. We recommend that you check multiple sources for wind forecasts. windy.com is a good website to show larger wind systems.

Astakos and/or the surrounding seas is not well protected from strong winds and waves, and you should take caution in foul weather. Click to edit protection level.
Astakos is surrounded by high hills or mountains. When strong winds come from the mountainous side there is a risk of turbulent or katabatic winds (also called "fall winds"), which may be rather unpleasant. In such conditions, you should not rely on the wind protection score for the coming night. Click to edit.
