Åstol er en liten, rund øy tettpakket av gamle hus. Den er bare 700 meter i diameter, men det bor 300 mennesker her + mange sommergjester. Øya ble bebygd under sildefiskeperioden på 1700 tallet og det er fortsatt fiskere her. Men bebyggelsen i dag er av nyere dato.

Øya ligger like nord for Marstrand og er derfor lett å seile forbi. Men den er absolutt verd et besøk – det er en idyll. Havnen ligger i en kile som skjærer inn i øya fra øst. Det er en god havn i alle vindretninger, men østavind kan ta litt.

Det er en liten butikk på øya og et røkeri og restaurant nordøst i havnen. Vann på brygga. Diesel ved røkeriet.

Koselig liten øy med eget barnebad. Liten butikk på øya med ok utvalg. Restaurant Røkeriet kan anbefales. Det er også en koselig cafe i havna.

Litt større båter ligger longside til brygga. På nordsiden er det faste akterfortøyninger. Koselig hamnvärd.

Ved ok værforhold kan man ta jolla til Marstrand for de som ønsker.
