Gammel uthavn med vakker bebyggelse. Enkleste innseiling er på nordsiden av Kastellet (også kalt Hesnesholmen), men det er også mulig å gå inn Hesnessund og holde Kastellet om styrbord. Ikke gå for nær Kastellets nordlige langside (grunner på 1,3 og 1,8 m), og vær oppmerksom på skvalpeskjæret mellom Kastellet og Lille Lauvholmen. Fortøyningsbolter på vestsiden av Kastellet og vestsiden av Lille Lauvholmen. Mulig å ligge på svai på 3-4 m dyp i Innaforkilen vest for Lille Lauvholmen, men det grunner raskt opp mot sør og innover i kilen. Vær oppmerksom på vann/avløpsledninger. Skjult under vegetasjonen på Kastellets østside er det rester av det som har gitt holmen sitt nåværende navn, et gammelt kanonbatteri. 6. juli 1812 åpnet dette batteriet ild mot den engelske flåten som under ledelse av HMS Dictator forfulgte den dansk-norske flåten med Najaden i spissen østover mot det som ble slaget på Lyngør.
