There are few anchoring spots in Sognefjorden, but this one is both idyllic and relatively well protected. There are 3 different places to anchor here, but the easternmost one provides the best protection and is not too deep.

One of the decisive and major battles in Norwegian history took place here in 1184. King Sverre Sigurdsson (Birkebeiner) defeated Magnus Erlingsson, who fell in the battle.

This was achieved with perhaps the first warship in Norway; Mariasuden.

Recently, with the help of sonar, underwater drones, and divers, there has been a search for remnants from the battle. Contours on the bottom have been found, and they lie just near this anchorage.
