Fiskebäckskil ligger rett over Gulmarsfjorden fra Lysekil, i en kile med innløp fra nord. Husene ligger tett i et bakkete terreng og smale veier. Nederst finner mann fiskerhusene fra sildefiskeperioden, lenger opp er hus fra skipsfarts- og badegjestperioden med glassverandaer i sveitserstil og øverst ligger fritidsboliger fra 1900 tallet. Lengst nord på odden ligger også et hotell med restaurant. Stedet er ganske trivelig. En svensk TV-serie ble spilt inn her og i Grundsund som ligger på samme øya.

Gjestehavnen ligger lenger inn i kilen sammen med marinaen. Her er det verksted, parkeringsplass og ikke særlig idyllisk. Men det er ikke langt å gå til bebyggelsen. Havnen ligger godt beskyttet for alle vindretninger, men sterk nordavind merkes godt. Havnen har alle fasiliteter. Det er også en liten café i marinaen.
