Safe and good anchorage from all wind directions. Even though it can get windy here, there are never any waves that take hold, and you lie calmly and well.
It is nice to take a dinghy to the dock at the southern end from where there is a pleasant walk of a few kilometers to Skjærhalden where you can shop or have dinner. Nice and flat terrain that even children can manage. If you want a slightly finer but somewhat longer walk, there is a path along the water all the way to Skjærhalden as well.

description
Approach to Holtekilen with a minimum depth of about 6m. At the innermost part of the bay, there is a 'pool' with good anchoring conditions (believed to be clay/sand) at 3-5m. There are a number of mooring buoys, but it is uncertain if they are freely available. Space for 4-8 boats to anchor in addition to the buoys.
Was here while it was blowing 7-8 m/s from the south offshore and thought it would be sheltered due to all the surrounding vegetation, but instead, it was almost the same wind strength and gustiness due to turbulence from the trees.

Olav Pekeberg says:
description
Anchoring: Holtekilen on the east side of Kirkøy is surrounded by flat land. This is a good harbor for anchoring. Good holding ground. One can anchor or moor along the southern shore. When sailing towards the opening of the cove, keep slightly clear of the southern land.
