Innseiling og maritime forhold: Beskrivelse kopiert fra http://www.haugesundseilforening.no/tur-og-hav/havneguiden/ringenperler/ny-hellesund/

Det er mulig å gå inn i sundet fra begge sider. Det er noe strøm i sundet, så fendere og fortøyningstau må ligge klar før en går inn. Dybden i sundet og innløpet er i ca. 2 m., så her manøvrerer en med forsiktighet med mann i baugen. Det er lite plass til å snu, så en bør bare fortsette ut på den andre siden. Der inne er det en naturlig kai i granitten og fortøyningsbolter. Plassen er liten med plass til et par båter. Et eventyr av en havn. Det er kanskje ikke så dumt å rekognosere med jollen før en begir seg inn.
