Akoliakatat Pass fait partie de ces mouillages sur sable mouvant où les cartes sont à prendre avec précaution : tout ce qui est faisable aujourd’hui ne le sera pas forcément demain. Isolé sur la côte nord-ouest, ce mouillage peut cependant se révéler utile, car le lagon protège sur 360° et, malgré sa taille, le fetch est relativement faible.
Les profondeurs sondées dans la passe sont relativement fiables, alors que celles du lagon ne sont plus d’actualité. La zone navigable de la passe est étroite. La passe doit être franchie uniquement par temps calme ; la hauteur d’eau minimale mesurée en septembre 2026 était de 2,1 mètres.
Suivre la route indiquée en rouge sur la carte ci-dessus. Éviter la partie ouest du lagon, qui est envasée. Après la passe, mettre directement le cap à l’est en suivant une profondeur de 3 à 4 mètres pendant 1 NM, puis mouiller par 70°17,5023’N / 161°15,2700’W, par 3,3 mètres de fond, sur un fond de sable et de vase offrant une bonne tenue.
Les instructions nautiques indiquent qu’une période prolongée de vents du nord-est peut abaisser le niveau de l’eau jusqu’à 0,9 mètre en dessous des niveaux normaux.
Le lagon abrite de grandes colonies de saumons, de bélugas et de phoques.
