The land beyond the low small bridge lies a few meters below sea level and the level of the IJsselmeer. This land is kept dry by using pumping houses originally using wind mills and later with steaming machines. On the picture at the starboard side of pour boat you see a chimney just behind the bridge. The steaming museum with models and large real life machines is very interesting. You can see them while operational.
