description

Good strategic anchorage for sailboats en route to Lancaster Sound or Pond Inlet.
Approach: caution, in case of strong wind, the bend of Navy Board Inlet can be subject to strong venturi effects.
The anchorage is on starboard, just after passing the entrance channel. Anchor in 5 to 17 meters of water, over a hard mud bottom offering good holding.
In case of an east gale, an emergency anchorage is possible outside the bay, on the south side of the entrance channel.
Tay Bay is located in Sirmilik National Park. A permit issued by the Parks Canada office at Pond Inlet is required before anchoring there.

In 2011, Alvah Simon wintered there. He recounts this experience in his book North into the Night.
