description
Approach and maritime conditions: The anchorage is located in a sheltered bay inside Urdøya at the very west of Hitra. It is possible to approach the bay from several directions, but if you want deep water and to avoid aerial cables, it is obvious to enter from the west. On the approach, you will encounter two unmarked reefs to port (they are located west of Ersholmen). The innermost of the reefs, according to several nautical charts (May 2021, Navionics and Påsjøen), is a skimming reef at 0.1 meters, but at low tide, the top sticks more than a meter above the water. This clearly shows that there are some inaccuracies in the nautical charts, and one should particularly keep this in mind when entering shallower waters around the anchorage. The anchorage inside the bay is large enough for a couple of boats. However, there is not much room to swing around, so plan well according to wind direction. The bay can be exposed to winds coming through channels between the islets. Apart from westerly weather, it is very well protected from swell and waves. Here you lie flat and nicely.
Anchoring: 4-8 meters anchoring depth. Sandy bottom with some brown seaweed and kelp, but still good holding.
