Entrance and maritime conditions: Entrance from the south, impure waters. Mark painted on the rock inside the harbor should be kept close to the rock wall below the lighthouse. Watch out for the shallow reef (Mureren) in the middle of the entrance southeast of the lighthouse. There is also a 1-meter depth outside the steep rock wall below the lighthouse. It is difficult/risky to enter in strong southern winds and seas.
Anchoring: Smaller boats (<30 feet) can stay anchored against the wooden dock on the west side of the harbor. Holding ground is a bit poor in some places. Larger boats stay alongside the steep rock cliff on the east side of the harbor. Bolts in the rock and climbing ropes up to the bolts. Shallow at the innermost part of the harbor, but boats with a draft under 1m can moor with anchor against the rock in the north part of the harbor. Bolts in the rock and a grilling area a bit up the rock. Good anchorage.
Nice small sandy beach (Nordstranda) on the north side of the island. Good swimming area for children. Also a beach and grassy area east of Nordstranda, but with a muddier bottom. Good for camping on the grassy area.
Update July 2021:
There was a Bavaria 39-footer on the wooden dock at the innermost part which had measured a 2.5m depth. This was at low tide. Have someone on the bow, and 40-footers will manage there. Surprisingly many places around in the lighthouse harbor both alongside at the innermost part and with stern anchor at the outer part.
The area: Svenner is an old pilot harbor and there are old ruins from people who lived here in earlier times. Svenner lighthouse station is a coastal route lighthouse managed by the coastal associations in Stavern and Sandefjord.
