description
Old anchorage with beautiful buildings. The easiest approach is on the north side of the Kastellet (also called Hesnesholmen), but it is also possible to enter Hesnessund and keep Kastellet to starboard. Do not go too close to the northern side of Kastellet (shoals at 1.3 and 1.8 m), and be aware of the skerry between Kastellet and Lille Lauvholmen. Mooring bolts on the west side of Kastellet and the west side of Lille Lauvholmen. It is possible to anchor at a depth of 3-4 m in Innaforkilen west of Lille Lauvholmen, but it shallows quickly towards the south and further into the bay. There are water/sewage pipes from the cabins on Hesnes leading into Borøykilen - these are not marked on all maps. The map also shows an (old?) sewage pipe that goes out of the bay in a northeastern direction. Hidden under the vegetation on the east side of Kastellet are the remains of what has given the islet its current name, an old cannon battery. On July 6, 1812, this battery opened fire on the English fleet led by HMS Dictator, which was pursuing the Danish-Norwegian fleet with Najaden at the forefront eastwards towards what became the Battle of Lyngør.
