34 nautical miles north of Lüderitz, Hottentot Bay reveals a rare anchorage of stark and mesmerizing beauty. Nestled between the heat of the Namib dunes and the cold waters of the Atlantic, it fades into the mists of the Benguela, delivering a striking spectacle of light and solitude. Isolated and preserved, the bay exudes an almost unreal magic, sure to captivate the navigator in search of the unknown.
Approach: Round the peninsula, lined with rocks both on its outer coast and on its inner side, facing the bay.
Anchorage: Sandy bottom offering excellent holding.
Landing: Carefully calculate the tide before landing, as the beach extensively uncovers at low tide.
Lobster fishermen regularly come to set their traps in the bay. They are always happy to trade a few for one or two bottles of wine or some beers.
