description

Entering from the west, north of Kvalen lighthouse.
Even though the basin appears large on the map, it is not very suitable for anchoring except in completely calm weather.
The sea is just outside, and it easily becomes choppy and unsafe.
If you have a motorboat, it is possible to go closer to shore and use a stern anchor. But it's likely rocky and a bit challenging to secure a hold?
A smaller pier at the very end is used by regular boats. There is also space for several smaller motorboats with stern anchors?
The innermost part (northeast) has a sea swimming facility with benches, suitable for activities such as grilling.
In bad weather, it is an attraction to watch the lighthouse at the tip of the cape and see the waves crashing high.
It is also a nice walk to the lighthouse in good weather. A popular destination for those living in Haugesund.
There are coastal paths both to the north and south. Particularly, the coastal path south towards Haugesund is nice and popular. It leads to Haraldsstøtta, which marks the place where Harald Fairhair was buried, and it takes about 15-20 minutes to reach.
At the very north of the basin, there are some horse sculptures, which were formerly in the Thames but were moved here.
All in all:
A nice coastal hiking area, possible to moor closer to shore but not with a large motorboat. However, not very suitable for anchoring for sailboats; if so, the weather must be very calm and still.
