Innseiling og maritime forhold: Innseiling til havneområdet fra nordøst. Tallakshavn er lett å komme inn og ut av, uansett hvor det blåser, nesten uten at man trenger å forlate leden.
Ankring: I Tallakshavn er det store områder å ankre opp på. Du kan ankre både nord og syd i bukta, hvor det er best avhenger av vindretningen og eventuelt sjødrag. Det er også mulig å ligge inn mot land ved Laksholmen.
Området: «Noen havner er så fristende at man drar på tur for å besøke nettopp den eller de havnene. Andre hvner blir brukt fordi de ligger så hendig til. Noen havner har begge kvaliteter. En slik havn er Tallakshavn ved innløpet til Tønsbergfjorden, straks innenfor Tønsberg Tønne».
