This old fishing village on the Namdal coast is protected. Sør-Gjæslingan was once one of the largest south of Lofoten with up to 4000 men and women gathered in the peak season. The Coastal Museum makes a great effort to maintain buildings and quay facilities. The place is a somewhat unknown gem, without much tourism. Many authentic fishermen's cabins are preserved. Definitely worth a visit. The harbor is a fair-weather harbor, the approach is challenging in bad weather. Tidal differences in the harbor are up to 2 meters.

Approach and Maritime Conditions: Enter Sør-Gjæslingan from the south. You must pass several islets and sounds to reach the floating dock where guests moor. Between some of the islets, it is too shallow to navigate, so check the charts and GPS carefully. The guest dock at Nakken (west of Sør-Gjæslingan) has been there for many years. In 2021, a new floating dock was established at Heimværet (east of Sør-Gjæslingan), which also has space for guests. See the separate page for this floating dock.
Mooring: Longside mooring on a good floating dock. Deep all the way in on both sides, be mindful all the way in if you have a sailboat. Space for 3-4 boats on each side, and it is also possible to raft up. It is also possible to anchor in several places around Sør-Gjæslingan.
