Varberg is a safe harbour in a weather-exposed area without much of an archipelago. It is a pleasant town with various amenities nearby.
What detracts in 2025 is the administrative part of the harbour visit. The municipality now uses portnet.se as a portal. Many people have problems using it according to locals I spoke with. I myself encountered a suspicious and unknown pop-up login when I was attempting to pay the harbour fee. The harbour master didn't understand it either. I couldn't get through, but succeeded after starting over.
The electricity regime is somewhat unique compared to what one might otherwise be accustomed to. You should know how much you are going to use because you have to buy a specific amount of kWh in advance. If you purchase too much, you will not be refunded for the excess. It is rather strange, since it is Tally in charge of this, and otherwise in Denmark and Sweden, you receive a Tally card which can be refunded. If it is cold and you plan to use some electric heating at night, it is best to purchase plenty of electricity so you don't run out at, say, 0400 hours. But if you haven't used it all, the electricity and paid value will expire at 12:00 the next day.

The Marina Varberg offers comprehensive facilities, the jetties are in good condition and sufficiently wide for easy docking and undocking. There are sufficient power and water connections at the jetties, and the sanitary facilities are modern, clean, and well-maintained. We particularly noticed that there are enough showers and toilets, so there are no waiting times even during the high season. Washing machines and dryers are also available, which is very practical for longer stays. There is a small café in the marina itself, which is very pleasant for a morning coffee or a snack in between. In the immediate vicinity of the marina, you will find a wide selection of restaurants, cafés, and bars to suit every taste and budget. Supermarkets and shops for daily needs are also within walking distance.

Guests usually stay in the inner harbour, alongside the quay. Be prepared to raft up in peak season.
Toilet and shower facilities are new and very good.
The city is near, with lots of restaurants, shops and even a Biltema in case you need spare parts.
A very good place to hole up if there is a storm!

Do you know this harbour? It's a huge help to other sailors if you add a short description or review of the harbour.

Want to know how the wind score works? Then you should read this explanation.
The wind forecasts come from yr.no (Norwegian Meteorological Institute), and was last updated 1 hour and 51 minutes ago (Tuesday 26 August 07:27 PM). The next night score shows you the worst hour between 22:00 and 08:00 the next night. We recommend that you check multiple sources for wind forecasts. windy.com is a good website to show larger wind systems.
The safe wind directions for this harbour has been decided by an algorithm, based on how elevated the land around the harbour is. It's mostly correct, but sometimes the underlying data about elevation levels is not good enough to make correct decisions. It's a great help to other if you can validate or adjust the safe wind directions. You can see the data used by the algorithm to decide the safe wind directions by clicking here.
