As known, a large anchorage with room for many boats. However, the northernmost part is quite densely packed with buoys.

Bra ankerfeste. Ankeret kom opp med ltt fast skjellsand på. Det blir brågrunt mot marbakken. 2,5-3m ankringsdybde. Ankerplassen egner seg nok best i bra vær.

The anchorage spots are located south of the old railway pier, which is no longer in use (one can anchor north of it as well). Anchoring depth is 2-4 meters. In the west, it is quite shallow with a lot of seagrass. The seagrass can give some misleading depth indications in the area. Due to the shallower depth, fewer people anchor in the west, making it somewhat quieter in terms of traffic. In the east, there are 4 buoys that appear to be frequently used for shorter stays. Presumably, these buoys belong to the Danish Sailing Union/Danish Cruisers. A spade anchor held well. It came up with a mix of mud, shell sand, and seagrass.
1 km away is Frederikssund Harbor, with a Føtex grocery store by the harbor, and another supermarket a little over a kilometer away.

Varberg is a safe harbour in a weather-exposed area without much of an archipelago. It is a pleasant town with various amenities nearby.
What detracts in 2025 is the administrative part of the harbour visit. The municipality now uses portnet.se as a portal. Many people have problems using it according to locals I spoke with. I myself encountered a suspicious and unknown pop-up login when I was attempting to pay the harbour fee. The harbour master didn't understand it either. I couldn't get through, but succeeded after starting over.
The electricity regime is somewhat unique compared to what one might otherwise be accustomed to. You should know how much you are going to use because you have to buy a specific amount of kWh in advance. If you purchase too much, you will not be refunded for the excess. It is rather strange, since it is Tally in charge of this, and otherwise in Denmark and Sweden, you receive a Tally card which can be refunded. If it is cold and you plan to use some electric heating at night, it is best to purchase plenty of electricity so you don't run out at, say, 0400 hours. But if you haven't used it all, the electricity and paid value will expire at 12:00 the next day.

Visited this town in 2022, but anchored north of the breakwater. Good holding ground, adequate depth. Nice dinghy dock in town after a slightly long dinghy trip to the innermost part of the harbor, and further under the bridge on the south side.

Ingen ilandstigningsbrygge for jolle observert. Det er noe sandstrand i øst som kan egne seg til ilandstigning med jolle. Velkjent utfartshavn for de lokale.

Stayed here in W-NW wind, good shelter and plenty of space to anchor. Easy approach from NE. Remember that approaching directly from the south is obstructed for sailboats by two spans from Mørkholmen. Experienced good holding ground, we had the anchor on a 2.3-3 meter depth, but upon retrieval, there was a large clump of a mixture of seaweed and clay on the anchor. The anchor chain was also partially filled with clay, so washing the chain on the way up was necessary.

A decent place to stay overnight in westerly weather. Seaweed can cause some varying depth indications, but the 3.1-meter mark is accurate under normal water levels (verified by snorkeling). The fishing harbor is nearby; otherwise, the surroundings are calm and not particularly exciting.

It is okay to anchor, and there are also some buoys available. Good shelter from S-SW winds. Little noticeable current. There is a busy channel to the north, but it is not very noticeable.

A marked channel leads to the location. There are not many facilities, some indoor spaces, and what is presumed to be an outhouse was observed. A small floating dock by the bathing area.
