Det er to brukbare ankringsplasser i bukta. Den nedenfor bebyggelsen gir beskyttelse mot øst. Det er også en undervannsterskel med riktige dyp på den andre siden av bukta fra bebyggelsen som gir beskyttelse mot vind fra vest.
Det er mye gjørme i bukta som kan gi ankeret dårlig feste. Ofte finner man bedre ankring litt ut på sidene fra innerste del av bukta hvis det er en breelv hvor det kommer mye lette små partikler. Der hvor det er gruselver fra fjellsidene er det ofte bedre feste.

Great harbor - old glacier landscape, so if the direction of the glacier at the innermost part of the bay matches the wind direction (coming from the north and east), this can reinforce wind speed.

Anchoring conditions are not the best, so test how well it holds.
Often the wind forecast is not entirely accurate, it's complicated up here and the data series are often not the longest.

Akseløya is the world's best wave barrier against the west.

There is an updated trapping station just east of the bay.

A good place to stay if you are on the inside of the floating pier. On the outside, there can be many waves from trawlers, and the wind has a longer fetch to build up waves. It might be better to stay alongside others on the inside of the breakwater.
The harbour master may seem inexperienced.
10 minutes walk to the large kiosk.
Toilets, etc. are not the freshest.
Call ahead,
Bus to Lerwick departs 1 minute from the pier.
Restaurant "Da Haaf" on the pier.

"It flows eastwards (into the fjord) on the rising tide and westwards (out of the fjord) on the ebb). The narrow opening in to Van Mijenfjorden results in a delay of the tide, and high and low water occur about 40 minutes later than at Longyearbyen. At high and low water the tide is the same on both sides of the sound, and the current will turn. This means that slack water occurs «a bare hour» after high or low water at Longyearbyen."

Dette er en liten havn for en til to båter.
Foula har mye historie med nordiske røtter.
Veldig hyggelige folk når du kommer i kontakt med dem. De gjør så godt de kan. Dette er ikke rikfolk.

Easy to find but exposed to some wind directions.
Akseløya effectively dampens waves from the east and if you are tucked in far enough, there are few waves from the west.
Good seabed for anchoring.

Godt skjermet mot nord og vest hvis du er langt nok inne. De beste ankringsforholdene er innerst litt mot øst så får du også skjerming mot øst. God ankringsbunn.

Good harbor in a lagoon with good wave protection from most directions, except over two thresholds towards due west and due north. The thresholds, old moraine ridges, are shallow 3-4m towards the west and a bit shallower towards the north. One should study the chart as there are shallower areas on both.
The bottom conditions are variable, so you may have to anchor several times before it holds. There are sections with some reddish soupy clay.
There is a small hunting cabin and often reindeer near the harbor.

Expensive to stay at the guest harbor and a lot of noise from restaurants and drunk people in the northern part until early morning. Quieter by the bridge and further south.
No power in the power outlets, but not labeled either.
Clean and tidy.
Bad shower.

Smaller marina with great location right in the middle of Newcastle.
You need to book a bridge opening of a specific arch bridge to enter. Amazing.
Poor with amenities.

A small, very poor condition pier towards the west. The stone pier with stone steps up to the farm is private and not suitable for mooring.
20m height on cable into the bay.
Good anchoring bottom. Not much space for more than 3-4 boats, depending on the wind.
Great shelter except from the SW/W.

This is a great but very exposed anchorage that requires good weather. The seabed for anchoring is very variable, so be prepared to re-anchor as the anchor may slip. There is a lot of seaweed in the area. It is exposed to wind and there are tidal currents in different directions. There may also be waves in the harbor with winds from the southeast.

I have anchored here a couple of times, and the wind protection is often poor due to low lands/islands. There are round formations that provide little shelter.
There is good holding for the anchor in Cy but there are always some waves.

Often better on the other side of the fjord.

A lot of old, polluted, and damaged.
The nature around is nice but a lot of litter in the settlement.
Tourism from Longyear is the reason for the small floating dock.

The harbour master doesn't seem to be making an effort.
This is a tide with long walls where you can't come ashore when it's not high tide. Most of the three boats that there is space for are taking up double the mooring space.
There is a lot of swell in the harbour.

One should take note of a wave area a little out from the harbor, marked on Raymarine/Lighthouse charts.
There is some swell in the harbor; there are only high concrete walls and nothing to calm it down.
The harbourmaster does not provide good answers about the harbor despite 40 years in service. The website is not good at this either.

Easy access, no bridge openings.
Slightly higher docks. Payment at machine.
The city's less fancy toilets are available by the nearest bridge, about 25 meters away.
No showers - the Ophelia facility is closed and may have been for a long time.
Some sightseeing boat traffic, but still surprisingly calm.
Many tourists walking on the dock, but it's okay and still relatively undisturbed.
You are in the middle of everything with all facilities available.

2 cold air descents from glaciers and mountain areas down towards/out fjords (intensifies/weakens other wind).

Common in Svalbard:
1 shallow waters with missing markers
2 cold air currents from glaciers and mountainous areas down towards/out to the fjords (enhance/weaken other winds).
3 often larger flatter land areas and rounder formations towards anchoring spots
4 anchoring in mud/silt due to glacial rivers. Try to anchor outside river mouths and check anchor strength.

Modern marina.

It is better protected here than one would think, both from wind and waves. One of the better harbors in the area, with relatively good space. The bay is often used as a stopover for cruise ships en route from Longyearbyen.

Very good anchorage, partially open to the north and east, but well sheltered from the south and west. One can berth on both sides of the island Reinholmen. That means reindeer in the area.
View over the surrounding mountains.
The anchorage is at a depth of 10 to 15 meters with good holding in mud, some kelp.

Barentsburg har bare to mindre NOFI flytepontonger for feriebåter med 2 plasser for seilbåter på utsiden av pontongene. Havna er åpen for bølger og vind fra vest.
Man bør bestille plass på forhånd i høysesongen.
Havnen har tilgang på rustikt strømsystem og avfallssortering, men har ikke vann.

Barentsburg er den nest største bosetningen på Svalbard, en gruveby grunnlagt i 1932, nå preget av en post-sovjetisk atmosfære. Den har ca 400 innbyggere, alle ansatt av kullselskapet.
Byen har et nyere sykehus, en moderne tannlegepraksis, et innendørs svømmebasseng, en badstue, en hyggelig bar (åpen torsdag-søndag), et hotell(de påstår 4 stjerner), en russisk restaurant/kantine (norske priser) og den på innsiden stiligste bygningen i byen er et lite lokalt gammeldags museum. Hyggelig museumsvakt.
Folk er hyggelige, men ikke lette å komme i kontakt med pga dårlige engelskkunnskaper. Det er en kolonial med dårlig utvalg og høye priser.
Dusjene hadde ikke varmt vann da vi var innom, selv om dette er inkludert i havneleien på 500+ nok, det var også brudd på elektrisitet. Hørte om brudd på vannforsyning.

En ulempe er de to store skorsteinen på varmeverket som fyller fjorden med røyk. Hvis de ikke går blir blir det fort kaldt vann etc.

Dette er ingen rimelig plass, prisene har flytende vekslingskurser varierende fra vare til vare basert på veldig dårlig vekslingskurs for nok.

Secure pier in a cove along the channel. Old fishing harbour with a good fish market and museum. 3 restaurants, grocery store, and café.
Guest harbour fee is paid at the restaurant at the end. With shower and toilet behind it.

The harbour is the outermost of the three harbours and is intended for larger ships than the outer part of the south harbour.
The harbour is outside the bridges. There is a footbridge at the far end and then from that basin, a bridge leads to both the south and north harbours.

The harbour is for on average larger ships than in the north harbour. There is also a marina for smaller boats at the innermost part of the south harbour.

The harbour is more open and exposed to wind and waves from, among other things, ferries.

Bygda har overgitt seg til Kinaturismen. De har ikke satset på seilbåter.
Do not go there med seilbåt!
Vanskelig å få kontakt med noen som kan hjelpe med alternative plasser å ligge.

Det er en kort flytebrygge hvor det er en plass for en seilbåt. Man kan også ligge dobbelt, men er da meget utsatt for bølger.
På den andre siden av flytebryggen er det et a4-ark som er vanskelig å lese, men som sier at plassen er reservert for Linan som er en skyssbåt. Denne kommer og går flere ganger om dagen. Hvis du legger deg der må du regne med at det kommer krav om at du må flytte deg.

Sydover 25m er det en smal flytebrygge for ribber inn og ut i full fart.

Den lokale ungdommen synes det er gøy å holde på med vannscooter rundt flytebryggen der seilbåten kan ligge.

Cruisebåtbryggen er off limit for seilbåter, naturlig nok. Men disse er enorme og kommer ofte inn før kl 6 og bruker ca en time på å legge til, oftest med mye motorbruk. Du blir liggende nær dette med bråk og strømninger.

Toalett i kommunrhuset 8 til 20.

Det er alternative ankringsplasser innover mot Osa men mange undervannskabler/rør
