Approach and maritime conditions: Clean and clear approach. The northwest wind can be strong in the harbor. A little south of the approach, there is a high-voltage line with a stated height of 20 meters.
Docking: You can moor at the guest pier located approximately in the middle of the bay or at the cafe/boathouse on the southwestern edge of the bay. Parts of the quay are reserved for the scheduled boat.
The area: A nice place with a few permanent residents. Most houses are used as cabins. You can moor at the guest pier which is located roughly in the middle, at the innermost part of the bay. Here, only cash payment is accepted, so bring cash. The price is NOK 100 per night including electricity. You can also moor at the pier by the cafe. There is also a playground on the island, and if you walk a little towards the southwest, there is a climbing course with a zip line in the forest. Look for signs pointing to the "Monkey Forest". The climbing course is private, but the owners welcome guests. The course is not made according to current regulations, and all play is at your own risk.

Nice and quiet place. It is a 800-900m walk to the grocery store. Same distance to restaurants, but there is also a harbour grill and ice cream parlor in the harbour. Nice beach right by the harbour.
Recommend fendering up and having a couple of lines ready before entering the harbour. It gets tight going in and if a gust of wind comes, you might be forced to lay alongside. (Learnt from experience. It was calm when we arrived, but suddenly a gust pushed us right into the dock)
We sound 2.5m in the entrance and 2m along the inner dock. There is about 0.5m difference between high and low tide. We draw 1.85m and never touched bottom at low tide.

At the entrance, there is a shallow area with a depth of 2.2m. One must keep to the east in the channel. The west side of the channel is even shallower. The shallows are unmarked, so it is absolutely necessary to use charts and preferably also have a lookout at the bow.
There is plenty of depth along the south side of the island for alongside mooring. Otherwise, one can also anchor with the bow or stern towards the shore. There are no bolts on land, but some trees and rocks can be used. It is necessary to bring rock spikes.
One can also stay at anchor, but check the nautical chart for cables, as there are some cables here.
It is recommended to go on a dinghy safari up the Reddal Canal.

Great stopping point while waiting for the gale to calm down. Feel free to take a walk out to Lindesnes lighthouse. The trip is 4 km if you follow the paved road. Alternatively, you can follow the path that begins right at the last turn before the guest pier. (The path is visible on the map used in this harbour guide). The path is shorter, about 3 km. It can be a bit damp, so good footwear is required.
I recommend buying bread out at the lighthouse. Moist and delicious bread baked with seawater and seaweed.
The local welfare association asks for a 50 kroner harbour fee, which can be paid via Vipps or placed in the mailbox.

The children liked it here very much. We stayed in the northern cove, and here you can anchor, lay with ropes across the cove, or lie alongside the rock. However, be aware of a shoal that is not marked on the chart. The chart does show a wreck here, though. It's possible that the shoal is actually a wreck.

Nice beach with decent anchorage. Despite the sand, the anchor holds surprisingly well. The bay faces slightly eastward and is therefore somewhat sheltered from westerly weather. However, if it blows hard from the west, the waves will curve in and create a lot of swell inside the bay. Thus, it is recommended to anchor here only in good weather and with low wave heights. The beach is beautiful and the depth increases evenly, without any surprising shallows. A good alternative to entering Farsund if the weather is fine.

Good shelter from southern winds. Would steer clear if there is north/northwest wind. The floating dock is provided by the outdoor recreation council and is for public use. The stone docks are private. There is no more depth than necessary here. Sailboats should moor at the outer end of the floating dock with the bow pointing inwards. We measured the depth to be 2.0m approximately in the middle of the floating dock, at high tide.

Sheltered from westerly winds. There are toilet facilities on land, as well as waste disposal. There is a space behind the toilets where you can leave your garbage. Good opportunities for walking or jogging on the island. Approximately from the marker buoy and to the right of it, the depth extends quite far in, and sailboats can moor with lines ashore. See drone images that clearly show where the deep areas are.

Well-sheltered area, but difficult to get anchorage. Have a Bruce copy and got hold on the 3rd attempt. A lot of grass on the anchor every time it came up.

Nice place. Recommend a visit to the museum. You can anchor off or moor alongside the pier. The pier is marked 'Day visitors only' and is intended for short-term docking for museum visits. Sailboats must anchor and lie with the bow towards the outer end of the pier. Good food and drink service in the museum's backyard.

Popular outdoor area prepared for camping on land. It is shallow at the pier, but sailboats can stay at the very end, alternatively anchored towards the end of the pier.

One of the better natural harbors for those with children. Here is a beach, shallow waters with a sandy bottom and good opportunities for catching crabs, shells, etc. There are no piers and only limited bolts, so bring wedges. You can moor with an anchor and the bow in. In several places, the rock is steep enough that you can easily dock alongside or also with an anchor and the stern in.

1 x helpful | written on 13. Jul 2022

Taranger says:

description

Anchoring: From the east, the waters are very treacherous. Here, one should proceed at very low speed and closely monitor the depth. This is especially important for sailboats. The approach from the west is clear.
The area: A beautiful natural harbor that has recently undergone significant improvements. There are many docking meters and mooring bolts. Several beaches and a climbing route in the forest. You can lie on the west, north, and east sides of the island, providing shelter from most winds. However, if you have a sailboat, you should lie on the west side or at the far west end of the northern pier. Our boat drafts 1.85m, and we could just barely lie on the eastern part of the northern pier. The bottom is muddy, so it’s not a major crisis if you scrape it.

Beautiful place, but the marina is exposed to weather and wake. The inner harbor (motorboats up to 35 feet) is probably well protected. The worst is for boats between 35 and 40 feet, which are directed to dock on the outside of the southwestern pier. Here you are terribly exposed both to the wake from ferries and passing boats, as well as weather waves in southwesterly wind. For the love of God, use shock absorbers or long spring lines. Avoid double (round trip) mooring lines, as they halve the elasticity. Even in good weather, you must storm moor, because the wake waves will come sooner or later. If there is a strong southwesterly wind, you should be bold enough to take the spaces reserved for 40-50 feet. We are 37 feet and asked the harbor master, and he said we should move to the other side.
It is also wise to check the weather forecast before arrival and pay attention to which direction you lay your bow.

Approach and maritime conditions: Dredged channel. Follow sea markings. There may be a strong current at the harbor entrance.
Docking: The guest harbor is at the very innermost point. Keep starboard when entering the harbor and follow the maze all the way in. Moor alongside the inside of the breakwater, or at stern buoys towards the pier.
The area: A fishing and industrial harbor. Not a particularly cozy guest harbor. The town of Thyboron doesn't offer much either. But this is a good place to stop as the first or last place before crossing the North Sea. For a day or two, there are also things to do for the whole family. The Jutland Aquarium impressed. Very child-friendly. In addition, they have the Sea War Museum, an ice sculpture exhibition, and some exceptionally beautiful beaches. So if you do stop here, it's well worth setting aside a day or two.

Mooring: Excavated channel. Well-marked, but unlit sea markers. However, there are range lights that guide one in.
The Area: A cozy little town. One can easily spend a few days here. Beaches are scarce, but there is a small beach if one walks two kilometers out the fjord.

The area: This is an artificially developed bathing island that was built and is operated through the voluntary work of a boating association. It is a beautiful spot when summer weather is present, with child-friendly beaches and many crabs that can be caught. The nearest store is far away (5km), so provision in advance, or be prepared for a long walk.

The children liked it here. Up to several playgrounds along the promenade between the harbor and Odden Center. Plenty of shopping opportunities at Odden Center, as well as a liquor store close to the harbor. Hot dogs and ice cream at Notto's, located in the harbor, are popular. The harbor master is friendly and helpful. The waste disposal can be a bit difficult to find, but it is located at the back of the temporary service cabins.

There is room for many, and there are many mooring options. You can anchor with good holding on the sandy bottom. You can lie with ropes across the bay. And along the cliff, you can lie alongside. There are good depths throughout the bay, almost all the way in. No surprise shoals that are not marked on the chart.
With fine sandy bottom and varied and colorful marine vegetation, the bay is a great place to snorkel or dive.
For swimming enthusiasts, there are many beautiful plateaus along the cliffside from which you can jump.

Quiet place. Here, there's a Sunday atmosphere all week long. In July, however, they have something they call Fun at the Harbour, every Tuesday. This is a large flea market with over 100 stalls, food service, bouncy castles, trampolines, etc.
Recommend stopping by Snilles fish delicatessen. There you will find many exciting things. It is a self-service store and payment is made with Vipps. Nearby is also the FDF reuse center, here they offer coffee, chocolate, and good chairs for the gentleman while the lady shops.

Cozy town with a number of niche and concept shops. A wide selection of dining options where seafood and pizza dominate. It is worth noting that some of the berths in the harbor can be booked in advance. I recommend that those unfamiliar with the harbor visit the harbor’s website to familiarize themselves with which berths are bookable and which are drop-in. We were there from August 3rd to 5th and there was always plenty of space.
In the outer harbor it can be a bit drafty. Additionally, the distances to the town center become quite large. Therefore, I would recommend looking for an available berth in the inner harbor.

Approach and maritime conditions: Floating dock with space for about 3-4 boats on both sides. Otherwise, boats are moored beside other boats.
The area: A few hundred meters from the quay is Union Hotel Øye, which is a beautiful wooden building from 1890. There is a long waiting list for dinner, but they also serve a delicious hot lunch made from exquisite ingredients. Even for lunch, it is advisable to book a table a few days in advance. The lunch is pricey, but definitely worth the visit. Here, you step into a rich history at a hotel that has been visited by several royalty and emperors.

Great place. Nice sandy bottom and colorful underwater fauna. It is good for snorkeling or diving here. In the cove, there is good depth all the way in and no hidden shoals. Here you can lie across the cove with moorings to bolts on each side, or alongside. There are protruding rock shelves on both sides, which makes alongside mooring difficult for sailboats. However, it is a safe spot which I have marked on the chart. If you have a draft of no more than 2m, you can lie alongside with the bow pointing inwards.
We were here in a moderate gale and chose secure mooring across the cove. Cross-cove mooring takes up a lot of space and can annoy the motorboat crowd. (We got an adult scolding here last year) This year, however, we are outside the peak season and there are very few boats here.
It is also possible to lie with stern anchors and bow towards land on the west side outside the cove, as well as an alongside option (also for sailboats). I will mark it all on the picture.

Nice place to spend a day or two. Here you have mini golf, a small water park, a jumping pillow, a bouncy castle, and more. The children really appreciated a stop here.
We arrived here on August 5th, and it was obviously off-season. The harbor has a capacity for 250 boats, and there were only three boats here. According to the harbor master, it was completely full just a week and a half earlier.
The outermost piers have buoys for stern mooring. The middle piers have Swedish mooring lines. If you arrive off-season, you can lie alongside.
Be aware that it is shallow in the innermost part of the harbor. The innermost floating pier cannot be used by sailboats. The second innermost can only be accessed from the outside.

Updated information as of summer 2026:

The floating pier located at the very end of the bay is no longer in use and is considered a wreck. Mooring options are now by the boathouse or at the outer end of the floating pier on the southwest side (just before the boathouse). Be careful not to obstruct the ferry.
There is no information about payment or similar. We spoke with locals, and they also did not know anything about payment. We therefore stayed for free.

The piers were upgraded here a few years ago. A nice place to stay. If you are here around Easter time, a trip up to the old farms is recommended. There are endless meadows with daffodils.

Here there are two piers, a beach, and otherwise a nice place. There is enough depth in the entrance for sailboats, and you can lie alongside the southern pier. (There are some shoals far south, so consider bow pointing south. (I am not familiar with the northern pier.)

Anchoring: There are two shoals at the outer part of the approach which are not marked, but they are shown on the chart. When heading into Øynarvågen itself, it is shallow a bit out on the western side. This shoal is not shown on the chart, but by zooming in on the area using Gule Sider map (Google Maps does not work), you will see where this shoal is.
The Area: A peaceful place without visibility from buildings. It is somewhat shallow by the dock, so sailboats must dock bow in. Here, you can hike to the top of the island, Borgøyhatten, which is 292 meters high. A bit further south on the island, there is a guest dock, cafeteria, permanent residents, and cottage owners. Borgøy is also known as the home of the painter Lars Hertervig, until he and his family moved their entire house to Stavanger.

If there is something positive to say about the place, it must be the price. SEK 250 per night and free showers, washing, and drying. Apart from that, the harbor shows signs of being worn and poorly maintained. The hoses are still too short, as others have pointed out before.
In Uddevalla, there is a Systembolaget and grocery store relatively close to the quay. There is also a train to Göteborg, which takes 54 minutes. That is why we are here. We did not want to sail all the way down to Göteborg and therefore came here instead, using the train to Göteborg.
Otherwise, I can mention that they have Pincho Nation in Uddevalla. It is a sure winner, especially if you have children. It may be advisable to book a table as it is very busy.

One pays the harbour fee at the hotel reception. It costs NOK 200,- (2026). Nice place and decent quays. There is power only along the hotel. No power outlets on the quay by the parking lot.

We were here for a gathering at the hotel. The guest berths are alongside on the outside of the outermost floating jetty. On the inside of the outermost floating jetty there are 18 berths that can be booked on Dockspot. However, these are very narrow and none of them fit our boat with a width of 3.82m.
We chose to moor innermost, towards the hotel, on the floating jetty there, due to the forecasted gale. This is marked as a guest quay in various harbour guides, but 6 electric boat charging stations have now been installed there and it is probably no longer intended for guest berths. There is no signage or anything. And, not surprisingly, there were zero boats that came to charge during the 3 days we were there. A boat or two came by and moored at the same jetty.
On the premises there is a hotel and spa facility. The spa can be recommended. There is also a wood-fired pizza restaurant as well as dining options at the hotel.
I would advise against swimming. I dived to remove some debris from the thruster, and there was a clearly visible white toilet paper carpet under the berths. It was white where boats typically lie and a more natural color where there were no boats.
